NSM RESPONDS TO IRFS INFORMATION INQUIRY

The National Security Ministry responded to the information inquiry of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety regarding the proceedings into the investigation of Elmar Huseynov’s murder and the latest results. It is said in the response letter:

“Your inquiry dated 19 February, 2010, # S-100, was considered in the Azerbaijan Republic NSM Chief Investigative Office.  For your information, on 5 March 2008, we responded appropriately to your 20 February, 2008 appeal, which had the same content, regarding the number of operational-investigative actions related to the murder of “Monitor” journal’s editor-in-chief Huseynov Elmar Sabir oglu, the involvement of Georgia Republic citizens Khubanov Tahir Bayram oglu and Aliyev Teymuraz  Adil oglu as suspected figures, pre-trial detention adopted against them, and the international search warrant that was issued against them.
Investigative-operational actions are continuing to find suspected persons Tahir Khubanov and Teymuraz Aliyev in order to investigate their involvement, and to determine full circle of people related to Elmar Huseynov’s murder,” read the letter signed by NSM Chief Investigative Office Chairman Movlam Shikhaliyev.
A criminal case was opened regarding the murder of Elmar Huseynov who was killed on 2 March, 2005. However, the executors and people behind his murder have not been found to this day.
