Opposition Party Activist Fuzuli Huseynov Completes His 30-day Jail Sentence

Fuzuli Huseynov, an activist for the Khatai district branch of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), was released after Sumgayit City Court of Appeal vacated his 30-day jail sentence. Fuzuli Huseynov was arrested on January 27, and sentenced to 30 days of administrative imprisonment by Absheron Regional Court on charges of resisting the police. The APFP activist filed an appeal with Sumgayit Court of Appeal.

Fuzuli Huseynov had been on a hunger strike at the temporary detention facility, where he was held since February 5, in protest against his illegal arrest.

APFP, one if Azerbaijan’s two main opposition parties, has publicly stated that they believe Huseynov was targeted for his activity on social networks.
