PARTIES MAKE STATEMENTS DURING HEARING ON PARVIZ AZIMOV’S LAWSUIT

Today, 11 August, in the Lankeran City Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Javanshir Mammadov, a hearing was held on student/journalist Parviz Azimov’s lawsuit to consider the decision to exclude him from Lankeran State University (LSU) unfounded.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by P.Azimov’s lawyer Yashar Agazade.
LSU Assistant Director Ruslan Hamidov and plaintiff P.Azimov and his lawyer Yashar Agazade participated in the hearing.
“The investigation was launched from the beginning because the judge changed, and parties were listened to during the hearing. The judge scheduled the next hearing for 19 August 4:00 p.m.,” said Yashar Agazade stating that the parties will answer questions during the next hearing.
LSU claims that Parviz Azimov violated internal discipline rules to expel him (allegedly beat a fellow student); however Azimov says that he was expelled because of his article “Open Bazaar in Closed Rooms,” which was published in “Janub Khabarlari” Newspaper on 10 February 2009.
