PENITENTIARY SERVICE REACHES AN AGREEMENT WITH “ZERKALO”

Today (8 September) a hearing on the Justice Ministry Penitentiary Services' lawsuit against "Zerkalo" Newspaper and journalist Alyona Myasnikova continued in the Yasamal District Court under the chairmanship of Judge Ragib Gurbanov.

The defendant’s lawyer Murvat Valiyev did not participate in the hearing. Since the defendant’s lawyer didn’t participate in the hearing, Judge Gurbanov postponed the hearing until 19 September 11:00 am, noting that the sides appealed to the court about reaching a settlement.

Although the judge did not permit to filming or photography during the hearing, he promised that he will allow video recording during the next hearing.

Recall that the "Death Sentence", "Open Tuberculosis Zone", and "Gobustan Cemetery" articles were published in “Zerkalo” Newspaper. In connection with this, the Justice Ministry Penitentiary Services appealed to court and demanded that Myasnikova be fined 50,000 AZN and “Zerkalo” Newspaper publish a refutation.
