Today, July 19th, Sumgayit Appeals Court heard the appeal filed against Sumgayit City Court 4 May 2011 judgment which sentenced youth activist Jabbar Savalanli to 2.5 years in prison. The judge Latifa Mammadova presided over the hearing.

Jabbar Savalanli, his lawyers Asabali Mustafayev, Anar Gasimov and public prosecutor Tural Yusifov were in attendance.
The court hearing kicked off with the testimony of head operation commissioner at Sumgayit City Police Office Criminal Search Department Faig Mirzayev as a witness. The Commissioner said that based on an operation report, they detained Savalanli near his house to view his garments for possession of drugs. As Savalanli refused, he was taken to the police office, where he was viewed and narcotics were found on him.
Savalanli stated that he was threatened by Mirzayev in the police office, who told him to worry about his family: mother and brother.
