PRESS COUNCIL FORGIVES DEBTS OWED BY NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES

Membership debts owned by newspapers and magazines to Azerbaijani Press Council (PC) up to 2008 have been forgiven.

Press Council secretary Rahim Huseynzade told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
“PC Chairman Aflatun Amashov has raised this issue previously and brought it up again during the congress of Azerbaijani Journalists on 20 June this year,” said Huseynzade. “This has already been resolved. Considering that newspapers have a lot of financial concerns, we decided to take this step. According to the Press Council’s charter, mass media institutions that don’t pay the membership fees must be removed from the Press Council. Despite this, we eliminated debts for newspapers.”
