RAMIZ MEHDIYEV ACCUSES INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS OF MAKING STATEMENTS ON ORDERS

“Most of the time international organizations make statements about the situation of the press in Azerbaijan on the basis of orders.

I evaluate it this way,” Presidential Administration head Ramiz Mehdiyev said today, according to APA.

Mehdiyev claims that the statements made by different international organizations and some countries about the situation of the press in Azerbaijan are not based on real facts. “If we look at the relations within the European countries, Azerbaijan doesn’t lag behind these countries. Recently a PACE representative in Azerbaijan openly stated that it is possible to hold any one person in prison for 90 days in Britain without showing any evidence. Britain’s parliament has adopted a corresponding law,” added Mehdiyev. According to him, imprisoned journalists in Azerbaijan are convicted not for their journalistic activity, but for crimes they have committed.
