The examination into the death of “Tolishi Sado” Newspaper Editor-in-chief, former Department Chairman of the Language Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences N.Memmedov is over.
This was informed to APA by the assistant of the Nizami District Prosecutor, Nesir Ferzeliyev.
According to the assistant prosecutor, it was figured that N.Memmedov died because of his illness, “We investigated the death objectively. According to the results of the investigating groups, N.Memmedov died from brain infarction. That is why the process about the death case was ignored.”
N.Memmedov;s lawyer told IRFS that he was not informed off “The first examination was over on 20 september, but the second was also made to show that the examination was transparent. It is clear that both examinations were not fair.”
The editor-in-chief’s lawyer said that he would try to find the documents related with the examination and continue to do everything he can to bring the people who are responsible for his death to the justice.
“Tolishi Sado” Newspaper Editor-in-chief N.Mammadov died in the Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Services’ Central Hospital on 17 August 2009. In 2007, during a closed hearing, N.Mammadov was sentenced to ten year imprisonment under article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic.However, N.Mammadov, who had Talysh nationality, did not consider himself guilty and claimed that his arrest was related to ethnic-political motives and freedom of speech.
