SABAIL DISTRICT PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE CONCLUDES INVESTIGATION IN CONNECTION WITH BEATING OF JOURNALIST

The Sabail District Prosecutor’s Office has concluded the investigation in connection with the beating of “Yukselish Namine” Newspaper correspondent Elchin Hasanov. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Hasanov today.   

“It is said in the letter signed by Sabail District Prosecutor Shirkhan Adigozelov that my beating at the Sabail Police Department #39 was not proved; therefore no criminal case has been opened,” said Hasanov adding that he will appeal to court in connection with this.
A group of youth, who wanted a national mourning to be announced after the school shooting at the State Oil Academy on 30 April and protested the conduction of “Flower Holiday” were taken taken to Police Department on 10 May. E. Hasanov was in front of the Sabail Police Department #39 to obtain information about the incident and was subjected to harassment by police although he had a journalist vest on him.
