“Azadlig” newspaper employee, imprisoned satiric/journalist Sakit Zahidov’s health has worsened.
The wife of the journalist, Rena Zahidova, told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, “I visited Sakit today. He has severe chest pains. He was again moved back to the general detention place for prisoners from the medical department. The doctor of the prison said his health is normal and he allegedly doesn’t have any health problems. However Sakit appealed to Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov for permission to be examined by a civilian doctor. He is concerned that he hasn’t gotten received a reply yet.”
According to R. Zahidova, Zahidov expressed his opinion about the complaint submitted to Press Council by Yeni Azerbaijan Party against his poem and about the film “Iflas” (Bankruptcy) program that was broadcast on “Lider TV.” The imprisoned journalist asked his wife to convey this message to the press, “I don’t insult people with my poems; I simply criticize them. Everything in the film ‘Iflas’ (Bankruptcy) is false. Everyone knows who they are.”
