The roundtable held by the OSCE on the theme “Creation of effective relations between governmental organizations and media in the democratic society” concluded today, 20 April, according to Turan Information Agency.
OSCE Representative on Freedom of Speech Ilya Dobel talked about the basis of international and local legislations regulating relations between media and state organs, freedom of access to information, contradictions between freedom of information and government secrets, and information sources.
I.Dobel touched upon protecting information sources and noted that it is impossible to unveil “the journalist’s important information source.”
Lithuanian media expert Daynyus Radzayevich talked about journalist-official relations. According to the expert, journalists should keep in mind that they are objective information transmitters, and should not be too close to officials.
Journalists and governmental organs’ press services’ representatives joined the event.
