Taleh Bagirzade’s Lawyer Faces Difficulties Visiting His Client

IElchin Sadigov, the defense lawyer of religious leader Taleh Bagirzade announced that the investigative activities in the case of his client, the Muslim Union Movement chairman Taleh Bagirzade were carried out with his own participation. However, the lawyer did not provide the details of the investigative measures. Taleh Bagirzade was arrested in the law enforcement operation conducted on November 26, 2015 in Nardaran village of Baku. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office the number of people arrested in connection with Nardaran events reached 58. The Serious Crimes Investigation Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office has launched a criminal case against the detained individuals invoking Articles 120 (deliberate homicide), 214 (terrorism), 220 (mass disorders), 228 (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of firearms, their accessories, ammunition and explosives), 233 (organization of actions promoting infringement of public order or active participation in such actions), 278 (violent seizure or maintenance of power), 283 (inciting national, racial, social or religious enmity) and 315 (resistance or violence against a representative of authority) of the Criminal Code. Elchin Sadigov also commented on the obstacles created by the authorities to his meetings with Taleh Bagirzade. “The detention facility administration first did not give me permission to meet my client under the pretext that they had not received a prosecutor’s letter authorizing the meeting, After a long discussion and the intervention of the investigator on the case, I was allowed to meet with Bagirzade. If it were not for the investigator, who happened to come to carry out investigative activities, I would not have been given permission for the meeting,” Elchin Sadigov said.
