THREAT AND INSULT AGAINST JOURNALIST CONTINUES

Yesterday, 23 September, an unidentified person called IRFS Nakhchivan Regional Correspondent Elman Abbasov`s home phone number twice, threatened him with death, and used inappropriate language against him and his family.

The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by Elman Abbasov, “The same person called at 12:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m., and threatened me and my family using inappropriate language in Persian or Iranian Azerbaijani dialect for 15 minutes.”    
Elman Abbasov went to Nakhchivan City Police Office regarding the incident and the Deputy Chief received him and discussed his problem.
“At the end of the day, the employees of Nakhchivan City Police Office reported that the telephone number of the unknown person who is calling me was identified. According to the police, calls came from United States of America and they continue investigation in this direction,” said Elman Abbasov.
On 6 March 2007 IRFS Nakhchivan regional correspondent Elman Abbasov received a threatening call into his mobile phone. A person who was speaking in Russian said that he would behead him.  On 30 January 209 Sadarak region resident who introduced himself as Malik Ailyev insulted Elman Abbasov and his colleague Hakimeldostu Mehdiyev, and said that he would kill them. Official appeals were made to the Nakhchivan Internal Affairs Ministry, Prosecutor’s Office and the National Security Ministry regarding both issues, but nothing was done.
