TRIAL OF HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER BEGINS

Today, the Baku Grave Crimes Court, under judge Mahmud Agalarov, held a preliminary hearing on the case of human rights activist Bakhtiyar Mammadov, the director of Trustful Law LLC.

Lawyer Anar Gasimli reported to Objective TV that they filed a motion with the court to ensure the participation of the plaintiff.  The judge granted their motion and postponed the hearing.
Mammadov was arrested on December 30th 2011 for defending the military servicemen whose houses near Flag Square – where the new Eurovision Song Contest hall is being built – had been demolished. He was charged under article 182.3.2 (intimidation with a purpose to obtain property). Sabail District Court sentenced him to 3 months of pre-trial detention.
