TWO YEARS PASS SINCE EYNULLA FATULLAYEV’S ARREST

Yesterday, 19 April, Emin Fastullayev visited his son, imprisoned Editor-in-Chief of "Gundelik Azerbayjan" and "Realny Azerbayjan" Newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev in Prison #12. Emin Fatullayev told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that Eynulla Fatullayev’s health is normal and he does not have any complaints about prison conditions. 

The editor-in-chief has received about thirty support letters from Canada, Norway, France and Japan within the framework of a campaign conducted by Amnesty International, said father Fatullayev.
Noting that two years has passed since Eynulla Fatullayev’s arrest (20 April 2007), Emin Fatullayev said that his son was imprisoned wrongfully and he regrets this. Fatullayev emphasized that the European Court of Human Rights was in the final stages of issuing a decision on his case and he hoped its decision would be more correct.
Editor-in-Chief "Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realny Azerbayjan" Newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment on 21 April 2007 for insulting honor and dignity.  Later he was convicted under articles 214.1 (threatening terror), 283.2.2 (incitement of ethnic/national, social or religious hatred abusing authority), and 213.2.2 (tax evasion) of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment on 30 October 2007.
