Yeni Musavat newspaper correspondent Elmin Badalov was expelled from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy on January 19, 2010. Badalov alleges that teachers flunked him and he faced pressure for his article titled “Reportage from Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (ASOA)” on the pia.az website, where he described incidents of bribery and financial fraud in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. His lawsuit against ASOA and its rector Siyavush Garayev, demanding his reinstatement to the academy, was denied by Nasimi District Court on April 5, 2010. On July 2, 2010 Baku Appeals Court upheld the decision. On November 23, 2010 the Supreme Court rejected his cassation appeal against the decision.
