ZAMIN HAJI NOT TO COME TO AGREEMENT WITH KLO CHAIRMAN

Yesterday, 24 December, “Yeni Musavat” newspaper employee Elshad Mammadli testified as a witness in the Binagadi District Court in connection with the beating of "Yeni Musavat" column writer Zamin Haji (Hajiyev) by Karabakh Liberation Organization Chairman (KLO) Akif Nagi.

E.Mammadli told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that he described the incident to the investigation the way he witnessed it.
Although A.Nagi, on behalf of KLO, offered Z.Haji to come to an agreement, the journalist refused this. Z.Haji stated that he will not even accept Nagi’s apology.
On 12 December KLO Chairman A.Nagi along with several people attacked "Yeni Musavat" editorial office, insulted the newspapers employee Z.Haji and used physical pressure against him. This stemmed from Z.Haji's article entitled "Dialogue between two deaf" published in the same day edition of "Yeni Musavat" newspaper where critical thoughts about KLO Chairman A.Nagi were expressed.
A criminal case has been opened in the Binagadi District Court under article 163.1 (interference in legal work of journalist) of the Criminal Code in connection with the incident.
