43 people were detained during the action in Baku on December 15 demanding the release of political prisoner Saleh Rustamov from jail. This was reported by the non-governmental organization “Line of Defense”.
According to the report, 31 detainees were members of the Party of People’s Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA), 6 of Musavat Party, 1 representative of the Azerbaijan Party of Democracy and Welfare, another five were non-party activists , as well as ordinary citizens Rustamova and Firangiz Mammadgasanova.
All the detainees had been released by the evening. At the same time, nine activists were awarded monetary fines on charges of violating Article 211.1 (violation of the quarantine regime) of the Code of Administrative Offences.
Thus, Tofig Yagublu, an activist of the “Musavat” Party and simultaneously a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces, was fined 400 manats.
The same amount was imposed on the PPFA activists Babek Hasanov, Mehriban Huseynli, Kenan Zeynalov, Gulnara Rahimova, Sabina Mirzoeva and Shamil Nasirov.
PPFA activists Rashid Turabov was fined 200 manats and Shirvan Soltanov fined 100 manats.
The human rights organisation believes that the police used excessive force in dispersing the peaceful protest.
Note that Saleh Rustamov has been on hunger strike since 6 November demanding to put an end to the unjustified criminal prosecution and the release from jail.
