[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A preliminary investigation against the head of the independent confederation of trade unions “Working Platform” Afiyaddin Mammadov has completed; as a result charges against him were aggravated, lawyer Zibeida Sadigova told Turan. Mammadov was detained on September 20 near his home after being attacked by an unknown person. However, Mammadov was accused of stabbing him. On the evening of September 21, the Khatai District Court chose a preventive measure against Mammadov.
Mammadov was charged under the Articles 221.3 (hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon or an object used as a weapon) and 126.1 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, according to which he faced imprisonment for up to 8 years.
According to the results of the investigation, the activist was also charged underthe Articles 126.2.4 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health in a generally dangerous manner, from hooligan motives) and 228.4 (illegal trafficking of gas weapons, cold steel, including cold throwing weapons) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Now the maximum term of his prison sentence has increased to 11 years. Mammadov denies the accusations and links them to his public and trade union activities. Mammadov was recognized by human rights activists as a political prisoner.
