Head of Azerbaijani NGO Hafiz Hasanov placed under house arrest

Head of the Law and Development organization Hafiz Hasanov has been charged in a renewed case against a number of Azerbaijani and foreign NGOs. Hasanov has been placed under house arrest, and the court has rejected an appeal against this decision.

“Hafiz Hasanov was detained on March 14. He was interrogated until the evening of that day, after which he was released, but on March 17 he was again summoned to the Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office and this time he was found guilty. He is charged with “official forgery,” “abuse of office,” and “legalization of illegally obtained funds.” On the same day, the court chose a preventive measure for him. He appealed this decision, but on March 19, the appellate court upheld the decision,” the source said.

According to him, Hasanov is charged with processing grants received by LD Konsaltinq LLC, which he heads, from donor organizations under service agreements. “In fact, there is no crime in this. The projects implemented by Gasanov were legal services. Khafiz Gasanov is a professional lawyer, a member of the Bar Association. He does not admit his guilt,” explained Gasanov’s colleague.
