The number of complaints from Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights is growing, as well as the number of applications pending. The head of the group monitoring the ECHR decisions on Azerbaijan, lawyer Khalid Aghaliyev, said this.
According to the ECHR statistics, 2,200 applications from Azerbaijan are pending today. This is more than in previous years.
So, 2,092 applications from Azerbaijan were pending by the end of 2021, 2,040 by 2020 and 1,950 by 2019.
According to this index, Azerbaijan ranks 8th among the Council of Europe countries.
In general, the number of complaints to the ECtHR across Europe is growing.
Citizens complain most of all about violations of the right to a fair trial.
This is followed by complaints about violations of the right to liberty of personal integrity and, in particular, arbitrary arrests.
At the beginning of February this year, the plenipotentiary representative of Azerbaijan in the ECHR Chingiz Asgerov told the media that the ECHR has adopted more than 200 decisions on Azerbaijan over the past 20 years.
