[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Wednesday, the Khatai court rejected the petitions of the defense of journalists of the “AbzasMedia” publication – Ulvi Hasanli and Sevinj Vagifgizi, as well as investigative journalist Hafiz Babaly for their transfer to house arrest. The lawyers pointed out the lack of material and procedural grounds for the detention of journalists. However, the judge Sulhana Hajiyeva left all three under arrest.
After the trial, the lawyers also pointed out that the convoy violated the confidentiality of communication between the arrested journalists and their defenders.
The journalists were arrested on charges of smuggling foreign currency. The talk is about allegations of “illegal” receipt of money from foreign donors. The journalists deny the accusations. Human rights activists recognized them as political prisoners.
