On March 30, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) made decisions on 28 applications from Azerbaijan, obliging the government to pay 80 thousand euros compensation to the applicants, the website reports aihmaz.org.
According to Khalid Agaliyev, head of the Monitoring Group of the ECHR Decisions on Azerbaijan, the case of Rovshan Mammadli and Azer Kazimzade concerned violations of the right to a fair trial.
The parties reached a settlement agreement at the communication stage, and the ECHR excluded the complaint from the list of pending cases and took into account the government’s obligations to pay each applicant 650 euros and another 1200 euros for court costs.
The author of publications in the media Mammadli was arrested in 2017 administratively for 30 days, and the journalist Azer Kazimzade was unreasonably detained by the Leric police in 2017.
The “Case of Jabbar Savalanli and Others against Azerbaijan” combines the complaints of 18 applicants who complained of violations of the right to freedom of assembly, and in particular, detention at a protest rally in 2017.
A settlement agreement has also been reached in this case and the authorities have pledged to pay the applicants 3,000 euros each. “The case of Hikmet Samedov v. Azerbaijan” concerned a complaint about violations of property rights, and a settlement agreement was reached here.
Hikmet Samedov, Iskender Iskenderov, Asif Nuriyev and Dahil Nazarov will each receive 3,600 euros, Ramiz Rzayev – 1,500 euros, and Rahim Mammadov – 3,000 euros. They will be paid 1,500 euros to reimburse court costs.
In the case of Rahim Shalyev, who complained of unjustified administrative arrest in 2017, the ECHR decided to pay him 1,250 euros.
Arastun Bakhshaliyev, a member of the REAL Party, appealed his administrative arrest in 2020 for 10 days, which was reduced to 3 days by the Court of Appeal. The ECHR determined Bakhshaliev’s compensation at 2850 euros.
