Agyl Gumbatov, an activist of the Party of People’s Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA), will be transferred to a pre-trial detention center-3 in the village of Shuvelan today on August 13. This was reported to Turan by the wife of the oppositionist Aigyun Gumbatova.
“Agyl is held in the Khazar district police department. Yesterday I gave him clothes and food. They didn’t let me see him. I talked to the investigator, who said that Agyl was detained for “a specific criminal act”. Today he will be sent to the Shuvelan pre-trial detention center,” his wife said.
Earlier, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that Gumbatov was detained for stabbing a resident of the village of Zyra, Yamen Mammadov. The incident took place on August 11.
However, the activist’s wife does not believe that her husband could stab someone. She noted that her husband had earlier been repeatedly arrested on slanderous charges. So, last year, according to the perjury of a woman, Agyl was put in a psychiatric hospital.
Agyl Gumbatov is known as a critic of the government. Last year, he had twice been put in a mental hospital for a video criticizing the Azerbaijani leadership. In March 2019, after the distribution of a similar video, Agyl Gumbatov was imprisoned for 30 days.
