ANOTHER JUDGE TO CONSIDER PARVIZ AZIMOV’S LAWSUIT

Yesterday, 24 July, in the Lankeran City Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Javanshir Mammadov, a preliminary hearing was held on student/journalist Parviz Azimov’s lawsuit to consider the decision exclude him from Lankeran State University (LSU) unfounded. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by P.Azimov. Judge Azer Samadov who used to consider this case left for vacation and therefore the case is now under consideration of Judge J.Mammadov, according to Azimov. The judge decided to reconsider the case now.

“Judge J.Mammadov asked me why the case remained inconsidered,” said Aziov. “I told him that the court postponed the hearing to solve this issue through reconciliation. However, the university leadership did not respond to our appeals and we decided to appeal to court again.”
P.Azimov added that they filed a motion to consider this case on the essence and the judge fulfilled the motion and postponed the hearing until 11 August.
LSU claims that Parviz Azimov violated internal discipline rules to expel him (allegedly beat a fellow student); however Azimov says that he was expelled because of his article “Open Bazaar in Closed Rooms,” which was published in “Janub Khabarlari” Newspaper on 10 February 2009. Azimov was in his senior year at LSU when he was expelled this February. Возможно, формат этой картинки не поддерживается браузером.
