Today, 10 April, in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Svetlana Ahmedova, a hearing was held on the lawsuit of “Bayram M” MMC to defend honor and dignity from "Gundalik Baki" Newspaper.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Rafig Abdullayev, defendant’s lawyer Jeyhun Jafarov and "Gundalik Baki" Newspaper's Founder and Editor-in-Chief Habil Valiyev took part in the hearing.
The defense submitted a written motion to the judge to send the articles in question "Narcotics Itinerary in the South" and "Narcotics Itinerary in the South – 2," for linguistic forensic assessment. The plaintiff left it to the judge to decide wether or not to send the articles for linguistic forensic assessment and stated that they have no objection for this. Judge Svetlana Ahmedova said that the decision regarding the motion will be made during the next hearing and scheduled the next hearing for 13 April at 5:00 p.m.
This lawsuit stems from the articles "Narcotics Itinerary in the South" published in the newspaper on 14 January 2009 and "Narcotics Itinerary in the South – 2" published in the newspaper on 22 January, 2009. The plaintiff is seeking the publication of a refutation, an apology from the newspaper, and 1 000000 (1 million) AZN for the company in compensation for moral damages from Editor-in-Chief Habil Valiyev.
