APPEAL OF JOURNALISTS HEARD

On October 19th, the Court of Appeals heard the appeal of journalists Elchin Hasanov, Afgan Mukhtarli and Natig Adilov against the decision of the Sabail District Court on their lawsuit against the Sabail District Police Department # 39. Judge Natig Abbasov presided over the hearing.

The plaintiffs Elchin Hasanov, Natig Adilov, and defendant Rufat Alakberov participated in the hearing.
The plaintiffs filed a motion requesting to identify and punish the police officers who physically assaulted them, as well as ensure their participation in the next hearing. Then the plaintiffs presented photo and video material of the incident to the Judge.
Judge Natig Abbasov scheduled the next hearing for 2 November, at 3:00 p.m.
 
BACKGROUND
The journalists were physically assaulted in front of the Sabail District Police Office Police Department #39 on 10 May, 2009. They were beaten by the police in front of the Police Department #39 while they were gathering information regarding the detention of a group of youth who protested against “Flower day” and not declaring of mourning regarding people who died during the armed attack at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.   Journalists appealed to court to consider the action of police unfounded. Journalists filed an appeal against the decision issued in Sabail District Court on 2 April, 2010 not to fulfill lawsuit.
