APPEAL SENT TO EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN CONNECTION WITH ELMAR HUSEYNOV’S CASE

An appeal has been sent to the European Court of Human Rights in connection with the failure to solve the murder of “Monitor” Journal Editor-in-Chief Elmar Huseynov.  This was reported in “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper today by the late journalist’s father Sabir Huseynov.

The executors and people behind his murder have not been found to this day although 4 years have passed since Huseynov’s murder, according to S.Huseynov. He implied the filing of the lawsuit was the work of Elmar Huseynov’s wife, Rushana Huseynova, who is now living in Norway.

“On the day of the assassination the Ministry of Interior and the Chief Prosecutor promised to solve this criminal case at the order of President Ilham Aliyev,” said Sabir Huseynov. “However, this was an empty promise. At present an appeal has been made to ECHR regarding Elmar’s case. The ECHR has sent certain questions to Azerbaijan. The answers to these questions are being delayed.”
“Monitor” Journal Editor-in-Chief Elmar Huseynov was murdered on 2 March 2005 in front of his apartment. Huseynov was also the founder of the Journal.
