“ARREST OF JOURNALISTS FOR THEIR PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY DOES NOT CONFORM TO EUROPEAN COUNCIL PRINCIPLES”

“The arrest of journalists for their professional activity does not conform to the principles of the European Council,” former member of Ireland Parliament and Parliament of Assembly of Council of Europe, and current European Union expert Pascal Muni said, which expressing his opinion about the arrest of journalists in Azerbaijan.

“If in Ireland – in my country – the government doesn’t approve of what journalists say or write, or their arrest is directly related to their professionalism, this would have been prevented,” he said.

Muni said that during election campaign the main duty of every journalist is to preserve objectivity and balance, and deliver the positions of all sides openly and transparently. He thinks that different issues may come out during elections. In these events journalists are required professionalism to deliver unbiased and detailed information to the voters.
