Arrested Journalist’s Lawyer Says His Client Has Been Tortured

Lawyer Elchin Sadigov met with journalist Fikrat Faramazoglu at the Main Organised Crime Department (MOCD) on September 19. According to the lawyer, Fikrat Faramazoglu’s teeth were knocked out by the blows while being tortured. Fikrat Faramazoglu was arrested on 30 June 2016. He is charged under Article 182 (extortion) of the Criminal Code. On 02 July 2016, Narimanov district Court ordered his pre-trial detention.

“He has intolerable pains in his head, jaw and teeth. He suffers from acute pains and insomnia and needs urgent treatment,” the lawyer said.

The lawyer added that he and Fikrat Faramazoglu’s wife have faced pressure for disseminating the information on the torture.
