On February 8, at 01:35am Baku time, Azerbaijan’s first national telecommunications satellite Azerspace –1 was launched from Kourou spaceport in French Guiana Space Center located in South America. The weight of the satellite is 3.2 tons. The satellite’s temporary position at 46 degrees East Longitude in geostationary orbit, rented from Malaysian operator MEASAT Satellite Systems.
After completion of the seven-year process of conciliation with 30 other countries whose satellites would coexist with the Azerbaijani apparatus, it will stand in its own position at 43.2, 58.5 and 96 degrees East Longitude.
The satellite was built by the Corporation Orbital Sciences Corporation (USA). The 15-year life expectancy of the satellite is insured for $ 17 million.
