Yesterday, 6 April, Baku City Executive Administration Head Hajibala Abutalibov visited “Sahil Bagi” in connection with the construction of a fountain which is being built on the place of “26 Baku Commissars” monument. Lent.az news website employee Elkhan Salahov wanted to ask Abutalibov several questions; however, the mayor turned way and refused to answer the questions. Elkhan Salahov told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
“Reminding him that high-ranking officials are obligated to answer questions in accordance with the law, I insisted on getting answers to my questions,” said Salahov. “Seeing this, Abutalibov sent two of his bodyguards to distance me from the area. However, I negotiated with them and was able to take some pictures.”
IRFS attempted to contact Baku City Executive Administration Head Hajibala Abutalibov in connection with this incident, but these attempts were unsuccessful.
After the “26 Baku Commissars” Monument was torn down, construction work began in “Sahil Bagi.” The erection of a large fountain complex is planned in place where the Baku commissars were buried.
