BIA.AZ FOUNDER SENTENCED TO 3 MONTHS OF PRE-TRIAL DETENTION

On April 14th, the Nasimi District Court sentenced Baku Information Agency (Bia.az) founder Sudef Majidli to three months of pre-trial detention, operator of the BIA Ilham Rasulzade told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety today.

According to Rasulzade, Sudef Majidli has been charged under Article 182.2.4 (extortion causing significant damage to the victim), and will be sent to Kurdakhani investigative prison.

 

On April 12th, Sudef Majidov was detained and sentenced to 48 hours of administrative detention by Nasimi District Police Office, following an appeal by Javid Shikhaliyev, the founder of “7 days” website. When he was detained he was charged under Article 202.2 (Illegal reception or disclosure of a data which are commercial or bank secrets committed for mercenary or other personal interest).
