BUZOVNA MUNICIPALITY APPEALS TO PRESS COUNCIL ABOUT “YENI MUSAVAT”

Buzovna village municipality members appealed to the Press Council regarding “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper.

The appeal stems from articles about Buzovna village municipality that were published in “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper on 14 October, and 5 and 6 November 2008.

“Yeni Musavat” Newspaper assistant editor-in-chief Azer Aykhan told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the facts in the reporting prepared on Buzovna was given to them by local residents, and persons who work in the municipality and who signed the letter.

Buzovna village municipality assistant chairman Afrasiyab Amirov told IRFS that the appeal was made because the articles do not conform to reality. “Comments in the article that the municipality chairman fled to St. Petersburg in Russia, sold Muslum Magomayev’s dacha, music school, and land of a school for the deaf, and committed other unacceptable acts are all untrue,” said Amirov.

The Press Council Executive Secretary Rahim Huseynzade told IRFS that an investigation is being carried out into this issue.
