CLOSED HEARING HELD ON CASE AGAINST NSM AND CHIEF PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

Today, 27 May, in the Sabail District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge  Araz Huseynov, a preliminary hearing took place on the lawsuit of “Azadlig” Newspaper Director Azer Ahmadov against the National Security Ministry (NSM) and Chief Prosecutor’s Office’s Investigation Department Head on Grave Crimes Eldar Ahmadov to declare the eavesdropping of his phone calls unfounded.

Ahmedov’s lawyer Fariz Namazli and defense lawyers Emin Gamarli from NSM participated in the hearing.
According to F. Namazli, E. Gamarli put forth a motion to hold have the hearing closed for the sake of protecting professional secrets. “We objected, but judge Huseynov decided to hold the whole hearing closed,” said Namazli.
“We filed a motion and asked for the court decision to listen to Azer Ahmadov’s phone conversations to be given to us,” noted Namazli. “Judge Huseynov said it will be presented to us during the court trial.”
According to F. Namazli, Judge A. Huseynov scheduled the next hearing for 4 June at 9:30 a.m.
A. Ahmadov filed this lawsuit because his phone calls were eavesdropped when an investigation was in progress into the case of “Azadlig” Newspaper correspondent Agil Khalil. Ahmadov demands that eavesdropping on his phone calls be considered unfounded and he be paid compensation for moral damages.
