Court Dismisses Ganun Publishing House’s Appeal

Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Hasan Ahmadov, heard an appeal brought by Ganun Publishing House LLC. The appeal was rejected. On June 12, a team of police officers searched the building of the Ganun Publishing House on the ground that they had received a report that a bomb had been planted at the building. During the search, they confiscated the flyers printed on the occasion of ReAl Movement chairman Ilgar Mammadov’s birthday. The Publishing House appealed to Khatai District Court requesting that the search and seizure be considered illegal, but the court rejected the complaint through its decision of July 13.

Ganun Publishing House’s lawyer Elchin Sadigov said the court once again failed to answer the important questions. “The investigator once again stated that the 102 service had received information about a bomb planted at Ganun’s [office] building. As it was a matter of urgency, a decision was made on the inspection of the building. No bomb was found during the inspection. The print materials and items were seized “out of necessity.” But it was not explained what that “necessity” is,” the lawyer said.

Lawyer Elchin Sadigov said they would appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
