At the hearing held on July 11, the Nasimi District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Raziya Atasova, partially granted the lawsuit of the Baku Steel Casting JSC, Baku Steel Company, and its director Ogtay Rafiyev against Yeni Musavat newspaper, the newspaper’s lawyer Vagif Huseyn told the IRFS today.
According to Huseyn, the ruling issued by the judge requires the Yeni Musavat to make a retraction with regard to the article in question.
Background: Yeni Musavat was sued over the article “Industrial plant of Zulfugarli brothers plundered and closed” published in the November 23, 2012 edition of the newspaper, which deals with sudden stoppage of work and sending of up to 600 workers on unpaid leave. The Baku Steel Casting JSC and its director Ogtay Rafiyev demanded retraction of the above-mentioned article and 1 million manat of compensation for moral damages.
