“DAY.AZ” AND “ANSPRESS.COM” WEBSITES ATTACKED BY RUSSIAN HACKERS

Today, August 11, two of the most popular websies in Azerbaijan, day.az and anspress.com, where hacked.

“Our site was attacked three time by Russian hackers, but everytime we were able to repel the attacks,” Anspress.com Chief Editor Aytan Safarova told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety. According to Safarova the Russians are trying to create an information bloackade in connection with the events occurring in Georgia. “Most Georgian sites have crashed,” said Safarova. “But Day.az and us continue to disseminate information about Georgia. And our correspondent is sending operative information from Georgia. The Russians probably don’t like this.”
In contrast with anspress.com, day.az did crash today. In an interview to Radio Livberty site’s chief editor, Elnur Baimov said that on the day the Russia-Georgia conflict began, August 8, the attacks on day.az also started.
Today day.az crashed at 4:30 p.m. and its activities were restored at 6:20 p.m.
