EDITOR-IN-CHIEF SUES MINISTER WHO DOES NOT RESPOND TO INFORMATION INQUIRY

Today, 23 December, in the Narimanov District Court, under the chairmanship of judge Turgay Huseynov, a preliminary court hearing was conducted on the lawsuit (to consider the inactivity of high-rank official illegal) of “Nota” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Sardar Alibayli (Aliyev) against Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov.

The plaintiff S.Alibayli and the defendant’s representative, Youth and Sports Ministry senior lawyer Rauf Aliyev participated in the hearing.
It was known during the hearing that the document to prove that S.Alibayli is the Editor-in-chief of “Nota” Newspaper was not attached to the appeal. Therefore the hearing was postponed until 25 December, 11:00 a.m.
On 8 October 2008 S.Alibayli sent an information inquiry to A.Rahimov and asked him to express his position on an article entitled “Two Ministers’ One Wedding Palace” published in 5-11 October edition of “Nota” newspaper and to answer several questions. However, the minister did not reply to the inquiry. Therefore S.Alibayli appealed to the Narimanov District Court demanding that the inactivity of A.Rahimov be considered illegal, the information inquiry be responded and he be fined in the amount 100 000 AZN.
