Baku Grave Crimes Court announced the judgment on jam.az editor Fikrat Faramazoglu. He was convicted of extortion and sentenced to 7 years in jail and a 2-year ban from journalistic activity.
At the beginning of the proceeding, Fikrat Faramazoglu made his final speech. He pleaded not guilty and noted that the investigation was bogus and he had faced ‘injustices’ during his trial. The editor associated his arrest with his criticism of the police and asserted that his arrest was politically-motivated.
Fikrat Faramazoglu was arrested in July 2016.
