Elmar Huseynov commemorated

Today it is the birthday of late Monitor editor-in-chief Elmar Huseynov. The late editor, shot dead on March 2nd, 2005, would have celebrated his 45th birthday this year.

His colleagues, political parties’ and NGO leaders visited his grave to honor his memory on his birthday.    

Shahbaz Khuduoglu, head of the Qanun publishing house, said Elmar’s death was a great loss for the independent journalism.

Musavat Party chairman Isa Gambar still hopes that the murderers will be punished sooner or later.

Musavat Party Executive Office head Arif Hajili believes that Elmar’s grave is a memorial for the supporters of democracy and freedom of speech.

Radio Liberty correspondent Khadija Ismayilova emphasized that there are still people who follow Elmar’s way and that she is determined to be one of them.

REAL movement member Natig Jafarli proposed to translate Elmar’s articles originally written in Russian into Azerbaijani and to introduce them to readers.

Turan Information Agency director Mehman Aliyev is adamant that justice will eventually triumph.

Journalist Idrak Abbasov says there are some followers of Elmar in Azerbaijan.  

IRFS chairman Emin Huseynov is optimistic as the activities of murdered journalists are taken over by Khadija Ismayilova and other young journalists.
