EU REPRESENTATIVE LEAVES BAKU HOPEFUL

Special Representative of the European Union in the Southern Caucasus Peter Semneby held a press conference yesterday (June 3) on the results of his visit in the International Press Center in Baku.

The representative arrived in Baku on 2 June and over two days he met with country officials, opposition leaders, NGO representatives and Turkmanistan’s Ambassador to Baku. During the meetings conducted by Semneby, preparation for the presidential elections and the situation of press were discussed. 
Semneby answered the journalists’ questions about the imprisoned journalists, and said that this matter was always a focus of attention. “We are very concerned about the journalists’ arrest,” said Semneby. “We’ll always to keep this issue in mind and will continue our dialogue with the government. We hope that concrete results will be achieved by the end of our talks with the government.”
