FAMILY VISITS GANIMAT ZAHID

Yesterday, 15 December, family members visited imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ganimat Zahid in Prison #17.

Ganimat’s wife Ayanda Mursaliyeva told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, “Ganimat’s health is normal and he does not have any complaints about the prison staff.”
According to Mursaliyeva, Ganimat strongly criticized the beating of "Yeni Musavat" columnist Zamin Haji (Hajiyev) by Karabakh Liberation Organization Chairman Akif Nagi.
Mursaliyeva noted that a hearing in connection with Zahid’s manuscripts will take place in the Baku Appellate Court. The journalist has already gotten a notice about it.
Zahid wrote a 300-page book about modern history of Azerbaijan while he was in Bayil Prison #1, but the prison leadership confiscated and destroyed the manuscripts.
