BROADCAST OF “CHTO? GDE? KOGDA?” PROGRAM TO BE CEASED AS OF JANUARY 2009

As of 1 January 2009 the broadcasting of the intellectual game show “Chto? Gde? Kogda?” (What? Where? When?), which is aired in Russian on “Space TV,” will be ceased.

National TV and Radio Council Chairman Nushiravan Maharramli told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety. Maharramli stated that a warning was issued a year ago to all TV and Radio channels about ceasing the broadcasts of programs aired in foreign languages.

We suggest to the channel’s leadership and show’s staff that program “Chto? Gde? Kogda?” be aired in Azeri,” said Maharramli. “All programs in Azerbaijan should be in official government language,” added Maharramli, noting that a final decision will be made about this issue during the meeting of NTRC scheduled to take place on 25 December.

According to “Space” TV channel News Department Coordinator Rustam Huseynov, they haven’t received any notice regarding the cessation of “Chto? Gde? Kogda?”.
