Family members cannot visit Novruz Aliyev who was imprisoned for 1 year and 6 months on the special lawsuit of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Internal Minister Ahmad Ahmadov against him.
Although 50 days has passed since his arrest, his relatives could not obtain any information about his situation. N.Aliyev's wife Yasaman Aliyeva Asgar gizi told this to Nakhchivan regional correspondents of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety.
“Although we appealed continuously to the Ministry of Justice to visit him, we have not been granted this meeting,” said Yasaman Aliyeva. “We attempted to get permission to visit Novruz on 18 January, but they didn’t allow us. They said that he would be transferred to prison on that day and would inform us when conditions allow visiting him. However, nobody has ever called to this day. From the ministry they said that his health is normal. But I can’t believe this with my husband. He has serious diabetes. This adds to our concern.”
On 3 December, during a hearing conducted in the Nakhchivan city Court, under the chairmanship of judge Hijran Muradov, Babak region Gahab village resident, 58 year old Novruz Aliyev was found guilty under article 147.2 (slander accusing someone of committing grave or especially grave crime) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Criminal Code and has been imprisoned for 1.5 years. He was sentenced to this punishment for his opinions expressed in his complaint letter against Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Internal Minister A. Ahmadov which was addressed to the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev and Internal Minister Ramil Usubov.
