Father of Arrested Journalist Appeals to President

On September 23 Kamran Hashimli, father of the jailed journalist Parviz Hashimli, the associate of the newspaper “Bizim Yol”, editor of the website “Moderator.az” and chairman of the Civil Rights Defense Center, appealed to the President Ilham Aliyev. Kamran Hashimli reported about this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety today (September 24).

In his appeal, he told that what has happened to his son is all unfair, and asked the president to help restore the justice for his son and pay serious attention to his case.

Background: Parviz Hashimli was detained on September 17 by employees of the Ministry of National Security. On September 18 the journalist was handed down a two-month pretrial detention sentence by the Sabail District Court under two articles of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code: Article 206.3.2 (smuggling of firearms on preliminary arrangement by an organized group) and 228.2.1 (illegal obtaining, storing, carrying firearms and their spare parts on preliminary arrangement by an organized group).
