Fuad Huseynov’s term in punishment cell was extended by 3 months. His mother Susana Huseynova reported about it to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) on September 23. According to her, she was informed about it yesterday by a person calling from the facility.
“Fuad was transferred to the punishment cell from prison 15 days ago. They don’t explain either the reason why he was put to the punishment cell or why the term was extended to 3 months. I can’t visit him often because of financial hardships and the distance. But every time I visit him they tell me that he shows an exemplary behavior. He has always been a respected, quiet person in our district too. He was slandered and arrested for nothing. Me and my husband, we both are sick, so we can’t visit Fuad often”, she said.
IRFS’ attempts to get in touch with the Prison #12 of the Penitentiary Service failed, the phone calls were not answered.
Background: Fuad Huseynov was arrested in October 2010 on trumped-up charges, after fighting against and going public about illegal actions of employees of law-enforcement agencies and government in Ujar region of Azerbaijan. On September 26, 2011 Huseynov was sentenced to six and a half years in prison under Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism).
