The father of imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Ganimat Zahid and imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper satiric/journalist Sakit Zahidov, Salim Zahidov (born in 1924) passed away yesterday.
Sakit Zahidov’s wife Rena zahidova told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
Today IRFS Chairman Emin Huseynov appealed to Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov and Deputy Justice Minister, Penitentiary Services Deputy Chief Nazim Alakbarov. In the appeal, Huseynov asks to allow both of the imprisoned journalists to participate in the funeral, specifically the three-day and seven-day ceremonies in memory of their father in Meysari village, Shamakhi region, as is envisaged in Azerbaijan’s legislation.
Salim Zahidov’s wife Khadica also sent a telegram to Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov to allow their sons Ganimat Zahid and Sakit Zahidov to participate in their father’s funeral.
