Yesterday, 1 December, an incident occurred during recording of “El ichinde” program, which is broadcast on ATV channel.
“ANS-Press” correspondent Vugar Kamiloglu, who was appearing on ATV as a guest, was physically attacked by singer Vasif Maharramli.
“ANS-Press” lawyer Tofig Hajiyev told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the incident stemmed from an argument between the journalist and the singer. T. Hajiyev stated that singer Maharramli threw himself on the journalist and began to hit him. The lawyer, stating that they have appealed to the Yasamal district Police Department regarding the incident, said he hopes that a criminal case will be opened against the singer.
“We appealed to police because there’s crime content in V.Maharramli’s action,” said Hajiyev. “A criminal case might be instituted against V. Maharramli after the preliminary investigation.”
IRFS contacted the Yasamal District Police Department regarding the incident. An employee on duty with the last name Valiyev said that no appeal has been submitted to the Yasamal District Police Department regarding this incident.
