GANIMAT ZAHID SENDS LETTER TO RAUF ARIFOGLI AND SAKIT ZAHIDOV

Yesterday, 12 October, imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Ganimat Zahid was visited by his spouse Ayanda Murseliyeva in prison #17. The editor-in-chief sent a response letter to “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Rauf Arifoglu. In addition, Ganimat revealed his opinions concerning Mirze Sakit’s dissatisfaction with “Azadlig” newspaper.

Several days ago Rauf Arifoglu addressed an open letter to “Azadlig” newspaper asking Ganimat Zahid to put an end to articles published in “Azadlig” newspaper about “Yeni Musavat” newspaper claiming that the newspaper works in favor of the government. Rauf Arifoglu believes that such articles are written at the order of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Chairman Ali Karimli.
The “Azadlig” newspaper responded on behalf of its editorial office stating that these opinions about the “Yeni Musavat” newspaper were mentioned in author articles, especially in the articles of Afgan Mukhtarli. Mukhtarli was dismissed from the “Yeni Musavat” newspaper several days ago, and his opinions do not reflect the newspaper’s stance.
G.Zahid stated in his letter that “Azadlig” is not a party newspaper: it is the cinder of longing for freedom of the people, whose determination to fight has been broken, and whose will has been violated.
“First of all, I would like to point out that these kinds of polemics did not occur,” noted Ganimat Zahid. “We have every opportunity to stop arguments. At least, we can sit down at a tea table to normalize the mutual misunderstandings. Rauf and I have benefited from this experience many times.”
G.Zahid stressed that he can not make such initiatives because he is in prison. “If it is possible to stop this quarrel and get over it, I want to say, ‘let it be the past,’” added G.Zahid.
The editor-in-chief expressed his opinion related with Sakit Zahidov’s dissatisfaction with the “Azadlig” newspaper. Sakit informed the media that his poems and articles were not published in the “Azadlig” newspaper. G.Zahid said that the important part of Sakit Zahidov’s claims against the “Azadlig” newspaper is groundless.
“I do not think that it would be right if he wanted to discuss these problems in a press conference, but not with me personally,” said G.Zahid. “I think ‘Azadlig’ newspaper will cease their relationship with him for good if Sakit changes his claims to accusations against ‘Azadlig’ to prove that he is right. I have a friendly suggestion to mass media outlets which allocate space to Sakit Zahidov’s accusations: Give his poems the space with the same generosity and under the terms defined by the author unilaterally,” stated G.Zahid.
